CrossFit Experience: I have been at CF330 for 4 years.
Favorite WOD/Exercise: I love kettlebells, deadlifts, and wall climbs.
Least Favorite WOD/Exercise: Wallballs and overhead snatches but I’m actually starting to like them both.
Tell us about yourself.
I live in Barberton, where I was born and raised and have two sons (ages 12 and 10). I’m currently teaching 3rd grade at Barberton Elementary East. I moved to Columbus for 5 years while attending The Ohio State University. I wanted to move back to the community that provided so much for me as a child and help instruct the youth of our future. I’m also involved in several community committees and volunteer at city events.
Why did you start CrossFit?
I began CrossFit because I needed to add strength training to my workouts. For years I was taking cardio classes like spinning and Zumba and enjoyed running. I loved it! As I got older, my metabolism changed and I was at a stand still with losing weight and wanted weights in my workouts. Michelle opened CrossFit 330 and I wanted to try the boot camp. Once I did, I was hooked. I was amazed how much I could do and the results I was seeing.
What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?
My favorite thing about CrossFit is the family environment and the support the gym offers. Every time I walk through the door, I’m not only getting the “me time” I need, but I’m building confidence, friendships, and everyone motivates each other! It is the best hour of my day.
What is a PR (Personal Record) that you are proud of?
My PR record was hitting 215 pounds on my deadlift in May. I was beyond excited and couldn’t have done it without the encouragement of everyone in the gym and Dustin yelling at me. I had hit 205 a few weeks before and he said, “you can do it! Come on!”
What motivates you to CrossFit?
The feeling I get after a workout makes me come back each day and continues to motivate me. I used to doubt myself on so many levels (in and out of the gym), but now I keep telling myself I can do. Feeling good inside my skin, showing my son’s how important fitness is for your health, and making positive changes in your daily routine is why Crossfit motivates me. The classes push me to be a better person.
What goals would you like to achieve in the next year that CrossFit can help you with?
I would love to jump a double under. I couldn’t jump rope correctly (I was skipping) before Boot Camp. I really want to achieve at least two by Christmas.
What would you tell someone who was thinking about starting CrossFit, but was nervous or scared?
Never be scared to improve something for yourself. Life is scary and trying something “outside the box” is intimidating, but worth it in the end. I tell my students a famous quote by JD Houston, “If you want something in your life you’ve never had, you’ll have to do something you’ve never done.”
