April 2018- Delaney Poetter

At a Glance:
Age: 26
CrossFit Experience: A little over 6 months.
Favorite WOD/Exercise: I’m one of those rare people who actually enjoy running (?? I know). I love any WOD with running intervals!
PR Pride: Although they’re not technically PRs, I’ve accomplished my goals of toes-to-bar, double unders, and handstand push-ups since January.
Least Favorite WOD/Exercise: Overhead squats & snatches are definitely my weaknesses, but they’re getting better (I think).

Tell us about yourself.

I’m the proud fur mom of Bradley, our 2 year old chocolate lab. Brian and I married in June 2017 and were together for about 6 years before then. I’m a speech-language pathologist at Akron Children’s Hospital and see patients ranging from 8 months old to 18 years old.

Why did you start CrossFit?

Over the summer I read a book called “Year of Yes” by Shonda Rhimes (read it, seriously) and it changed my outlook on many aspects of my life. At the end of summer, I felt really stagnant in my exercise routine and wanted a change and challenge. I was always interested in CrossFit, since I have always been an athlete and used to attend a boot camp at a box in Kent in grad school. When an opportunity to try it out for free, I said yes. I haven’t looked back since!

What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?

I love the coaching and community, and being pushed beyond limits I thought I had.

What motivates you to CrossFit?

Being an athlete, I’m an innately competitive person. So I love pushing myself to keep up with my friends and continue to motivate each other to be better versions of ourselves.

Sappy wife moment: I also love seeing Brian reach his goals & he amazes me with how dedicated he is!

What goals would you like to achieve in the next year that CrossFit can help you with?

I have my own SMART goals to work on, but overall I hope to keep pushing limits to see what I’m capable of (e.g., Survival Games).

What would you tell someone who was thinking about starting CrossFit, but was nervous or scared?

Say, “Yes.” Allow yourself to experience all that this place has to offer. Here you will find friendship, support, confidence, and lots of sweat. You’ll find a side of you and strength that you didn’t know you had!
