Tell us about yourself.

I am originally from a small town in Michigan, and I moved to Wadsworth 2 years ago to start my career at Westfield Insurance as a Small Business Underwriter.

Why did you start CrossFit?

When I moved to Wadsworth, one of the first things I looked for was a gym. I knew I needed to make some changes in my life - I was overweight, out of shape, etc. I had mentioned that I was looking for a gym to a co-worker (Heather Alkire) and she told me about Boot Camp (the next one started in like 5 days). I joined CrossFit right out of that Boot Camp

What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?

I love the competitive, yet friendly atmosphere. I love that we all push each other, and at the end of the day, we just want to see everyone succeed. The people at 330 have truly become some of my best friends. I also met my girlfriend there, so that’s a perk ;)

What is a PR (Personal Record) that you are proud of?

500# deadlift! I finally lifted that in March of this year. I had tried a few times before and failed, so it was really exciting to finally get it.

What motivates you to CrossFit?

I’ve lost about 80 pounds since starting CrossFit, and over 100 from my heaviest. I don’t want to ever go back to that weight, so that’s a big motivator for me. I also like competing, so competitions push me to work harder in the gym.

What goals would you like to achieve in the next year that CrossFit can help you with?

Ring muscle ups, dubs...so many things I want to accomplish this year! Amanda and I have a goal to run at least a 5k each month in 2019, and I’m planning to run my second half-marathon this year (hopefully with a time under 2 hours).

What would you tell someone who was thinking about starting CrossFit, but was nervous or scared?

The scariest day is the first one. Just getting into the gym is a big first step. Once you’ve started though, you’ll find awesome friends that make you want to keep coming back. It becomes more than just a gym - it’s a family!
