CrossFit Experience: I started Boot Camp 3 years ago this October and will celebrate 3 years of CrossFit in January.
Favorite WOD/Exercise: Hmmm... I like any WOD that has us switching exercises often. Jumping rope is my favorite.
Least Favorite WOD/Exercise: Burpees. I hate them.
Check out what Steph has to say about CrossFit, PRs and more below.
Tell us about yourself:
I’m 40 (YIKES!) and I live in Wadsworth with my husband and three kids Jake (13), Kyle (11), and Averie (5). I teach 2nd grade in Wadsworth at Isham Elementary and I feel so lucky every single day because I LOVE my job.
Why did you start CrossFit?
I reluctantly started CrossFit after completing Boot Camp. I hadn’t worked out in over two years after having my third baby and I was out of shape and not feeling the greatest about myself. After Boot Camp, I wanted to keep doing something because I was starting to feel like me again. I was terrified of CrossFit because I am the least athletic and competitive person you will ever meet. I was afraid that it just wasn’t going to be my thing. I eased my way in by coming once a week, which wasn’t very effective, so I don’t recommend it. After realizing that once a week wasn’t going to cut it, I upped my game to twice a week and eventually moved to an unlimited membership.
What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?
The people, for sure the crazy 5am-ers. Those girls motivate me to get up every morning and I can always count on starting my day with a lot of laughs. I also love any of the boys that brave a 5am class with us crazies! It’s a true family and that is so, so important to me.
What is a PR (Personal Record) that you are proud of?
I’m proud of my 215lb deadlift PR.
What motivates you to CrossFit?
All of the amazing friends that I’ve met are a huge motivation to me. The nightly texts and harassment about getting to the gym in the morning are a huge help. Kelcie and Lynette are awesome coaches and they know how to push me without overwhelming me.
What goals would you like to achieve in the next year that CrossFit can help you with?
I would like to get stronger, learn to do double unders and do one rope climb even though I’m terrified of heights.
What would you tell someone who was thinking about starting CrossFit, but was nervous or scared?
Just do it! I laughed at the thought of ever even trying CrossFit because I was so out of shape and unathletic. Anyone can do it, and the support that the coaches and other athletes provide is enough to make you feel like you might just be able to keep up. The community at 330 is so welcoming and will become like family. I can’t belive it took me as long as it did to join.
